Below is a poem written by senior Tajah Russell following the Symposium:
“Failure not an option you got to overcome it
Even if its last place boy u got to keep running
You got to be determine
If you lead
Then you’ll succeed
But you will bleed
but never leave
escape the night mare of your dream
and you got to wake up and this is what I tell ya
practice makes perfect dedication no failures
and if this is da risk then ima take da chance
yea dey trying shoot me down but ill forever stand
I open up my wings and I will never land
I got to be da king like Coretta’s man
And ima leader like Martin or Ghandi when he speaking
And I make da crowd follow there is no competing
Call me Mr. Perseverance
Where is your awareness
And I kick it like jet li homie I am fearless
Never back down
Never not now
No never
Can u dig it grab a shovel
I am ready for whatever
Dis is just reality
Im living in da the pain and get stronger from the tragedies
The casualities surrounding me
Bring me down im not coming down wit them
And life is to deep don’t swim or you will drown in it
Survive through the music
Nike, just do it
So if I don’t I will never know so just let me go thru it
See I am no Hitler and da power I will not abuse it
Da game is in my blood it is flowing like its fluid
And I woke up out the dream thank u Mr Wallace
Going straight to the pros yea im skipping college
I work harder than the hardest
so respect me like Aretha son
Hey im treal aka Theresa son
If it died u must be tripping cause im breathing kid
Overcoming the moment is the meaning of what a leader is
That’s excellent
Call me Mr. excellence
No wings on me but im flyer than the rest of them
Like im on jet and then
im gone I take flight
Boy we are da future but im living for tonight
If u have dream den u got to grab da mic
Dats a metaphor for anything you want to do in life
Get ready for show and never dim da lights
Do it for the love and forget about the price”
